"This is the best way to cook bacon. It cooks more evenly this way and more importantly, it requires little attention. The most wonderful part is you don't have grease spatters on your stove!"

  1. I can't believe I haven't rated this. I haven't cooked bacon on the top of the stove in years since I found this recipe. I wait until bacon goes on sale and buy about six pounds at a time. I cook in the oven until just before it reaches the doneness we prefer, drain and cool then wrap in paper towels and freeze. When we're ready for bacon we just pop a few pieces in the microwave for a few seconds and enjoy. I also save all the drippings in mason jars in the fridge. I use it for all kinds of things, especially when I cook eggs. All the bacon flavor without the mess! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I made this bacon for BLT's and it was perfect. I had thick cut bacon and it was nicely done after 22 minutes and letting it stand for another few minutes while I assembled the sandwiches. It's so much easier than panfrying it. I had run out of parchment paper so I used aluminum foil instead.

  3. leave the pans in the cabinet! i actually forgo the parchment paper, entirely, and roast my bacon on a foil-lined baking sheet, fit with a wire crack (to insure crispiness). in addition to the pepper, i sprinkle brown sugar and a smidge of kosher salt to each strip. absolutely DELICIOUS.

  4. This worked out really nicely for us. I had two pans of bacon so I tried it two of the suggested ways. On the first sheet I put a foil lined cooling rack in the sheet and put the bacon on it. On the second sheet I put the bacon on the foil lined sheet-with no rack. I put the bacon in a cold oven and then turned it on. The bacon cooked faster and crispier on the sheet with no rack. It also stayed nice a flat. The only thing I had to watch out for was the bacon spitting as I took it out of the oven.

  5. The bacon cooked up really nicely, surprisingly...I was a little concerned the grease would splatter inside the oven, but it didn't & the bacon was really cooked perfectly. Thanks

How does Rachael Ray cook bacon in the oven? ›

It's so incredibly simple! Just preheat oven to 375°F, and arrange your bacon on a slotted pan (like Rach's!) and bake to crisp for 15 to 18 minutes. (Again, if you don't have a slotted pan, Rach says you can make your own by putting a wire cooling rack on top of a baking sheet with a rim.)

What is the best temperature to cook bacon in the oven? ›

We recommend baking bacon at 400 degrees F. For most recipes, you'd wait for the oven to preheat before you start baking. When baking bacon, however, we suggest sliding the sheet pan into the cold oven so the bacon sits inside as the oven comes to temperature.

Should you bake bacon covered or uncovered? ›

Should the bacon be covered in the oven? No, you do not have to cover bacon in the oven. However, you can loosely position aluminum foil over the bacon if it is splattering. Just remove the foil in the last 5 minutes of cooking to make sure the bacon crisps.

How do you keep bacon crispy in the oven? ›

Whether you prefer to microwave, pan-fry, or bake your bacon, the oven will allow you to keep your bacon crispy for up to a few hours. Set the temperature to 200ºF and center a baking rack. Lay your cooked strips out on a baking sheet and place them in the oven until it's time to enjoy.

Is it better to bake bacon on foil or parchment paper? ›

To determine the best way to cook bacon in the oven once and for all, I tested Kitchn's tried-and-true method again using both regular and thick-cut bacon on both parchment- and aluminum foil-lined baking sheets. After this further testing, we've determined that parchment paper and aluminum foil work equally well.

Does parchment paper keep bacon from splattering in the oven? ›

Easiest Clean Up!

The key to mess-free, fuss-free bacon making is lining a baking sheet with parchment paper. All the grease and mess stays on the parchment, making it really easy to toss and clean up.

Is it better to bake bacon in the oven or convection oven? ›

In my experience, using the convection baking setting bakes the bacon faster than the standard baking setting. Either one is fine and will give you perfectly crisp bacon but you just may need to continue to bake the bacon longer after coming to temperature if using the standard baking setting.

What is the secret to crispy bacon? ›

Bake your bacon in the oven!

It makes the bacon perfectly crispy every single time. Which is a huge cooking win! The other plus of cooking bacon in the oven is the clean up. When you cook bacon in a pan the grease can splash around and dirty the kitchen.

Is it better to bake bacon at 350 or 400? ›

Is it better to bake bacon at 350 or 400? It's best to set the oven temperature to 400°F. At this temperature, the bacon should be crispy after about 20 minutes. A lower oven temperature (such as 350°F) will take longer; with a higher one (such as 450°F), you risk burning the bacon.

Is it better to bake or fry bacon in the oven? ›

Oven bacon gets just as crispy, if not crispier, and there's very little mess to clean up after. Making a batch of bacon in the oven also means you can do other things while it's cooking.

Why do chefs cook bacon in the oven? ›

Cooking bacon in the oven can help you achieve evenly crisp bacon slices to prevent burnt ends and chewy and raw middles.

Do you have to flip bacon when cooking in oven? ›

You don't have to flip it while cooking. You just lay the bacon on a baking sheet, stick it in the oven, and set a timer. The strips of bacon bubble away in the oven (no splattering!) and gradually become the crispy, golden-hued, irresistible bacon we know and love.

Should bacon be covered when cooked in oven? ›

This from Cindy Capps Lepp: Lay a layer of foil over the bacon; this will keep grease from spitting all over the oven. Remove the foil for the last few minutes of cooking for "final crisping." Cleanup is a snap.
