Allow me to share these discoveries with you: The name Joo Dee literally means “Local” (局地) in Mandarin Chinese.

In the canonical Avatar comic "Going Home Again", it is revealed that Azula has placed Joo Dee in charge of Ba Sing Se as Supreme Bureaucratic Administrator following the fall of the city.

“There is no war in Ba Sing Se” origins

The scene in question involves a hypnotic lamp revolving around a Dai Li official, who repeatedly says, “there is no war in Ba Sing Se” to really drive the point home in Jet's newly washed brain.

Ba Sing Se means "Impenetrable City"; the city is so named for its two world-famous walls, the gates of which have no hinges or other hardware, and are opened by use of Earthbending. Behind the Outer Wall lies a large expanse of farmland, Lake Laogai, and several mountains.

Phrase. there is no war in Ba Sing Se. (Internet slang, sarcastic) Nothing is going on; everything is under control; it is business as usual (suggesting that important information is being covered up).

But according to the creators, Mai is the one who ends up marrying Zuko, and the name Izumi means fountain, which goes back to the fountain incident when Zuko and Mai were kids.

Joo is a common last name found among Overseas Chinese communities around the world. In fact, "Joo" is the transliteration of several different Chinese surnames. Its meaning varies depending on how it is written in Chinese, and which dialect it is pronounced in.

The Conspiracy of Ba Sing Se was a conspiracy held by Long Feng and the Dai Li to control Ba Sing Se by appropriating control from the ,Earth King Kuei. Long Feng and the Dai Li covered up the concurrent The War, and gained control of Ba Sing Se.

Why did they call Ba Sing Se Omashu? ›

The two villages later created a city to honor the couple's love, which eventually grew into the city of Omashu (the names of the lovers are revealed to be Oma and Shu, whose names were joined together).

Based on a Google search, another translation used in Chinese for "Ba Sing Se" seems to be 永固城, literally something like "the [walled] city of permanent solidity", but a more idiomatic way of saying "city of indestructibility".

At the end of the Hundred Year War, Kuei returned to his rightful place as the Earth King after Ba Sing Se was liberated by the Order of the White Lotus and Ozai was defeated by Aang.
