Congrats are in order for Latto! The “Put It On Da Floor” rapper just received her first career No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She’s also the first rapper with a No. 1 song on the charts in 2023.
Only a few weeks ago, BTS’ own, Jung Kook released his newest single “Seven” featuring Atlanta rapper, Latto. Since it’s release on July 14, the track has skyrocketed to 21.9 million streams. The music video has also reached over 100 million views in just 10 days
The K-Pop group has a very loyal fan base (similar to that of Beyoncé or Taylor Swift) which helped boost the track to its current number-one status. The closest Latto has gotten to number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 was last year with her single “Big Energy.” It entered the top ten then rose to number three, that April.
When speaking to PEOPLE, she shared how surprised she was about the amount of support Jung Kook gets from his fans.
“Oh my gosh, we’ve actually been working on this, maybe a couple months. It literally has been so surreal witnessing his fanbase and how much they support him — it’s literally artist goals,” she explained to the outlet. “I was so shocked. I’m like, ‘Are you sure you want me?'” Latto explained to the outlet.
She says she felt so much pressure when it came to being a part of the project.
“But I was like, ‘You know what? He reached out to me for a reason. Let me just go in there and do what I do best.’ To see everybody’s reaction to my verse and how much they love it, it’s so fulfilling. Hopefully I get to go to Korea soon,” she added.
The single was released shortly before Lato launched her newest partnership with Wingstop. Her “Latto’s Lemon Herb Remix” meal with the chain has been picking up steam. She told PEOPLE that she was very adamant about the food bearing her name actually tasting good.
“I’m not putting out nothing if it’s not stamped for real,” Latto said. “It’s stamped. Let me tell you, we had a whole taste testing. But soon as we tasted this one, hands down, I knew this one was it.”
The elite list features nine solo artists and two groups. The Beatles lead all acts, with a whopping 20 No. 1s — they've had the most since 1965, when they surpassed Elvis Presley. Presley, who's notably absent from the list below, scored seven No. 1s in the Hot 100 era.
Granted, Rapture is still a rock song, and rapping doesn't make up all of the song, so it isn't officially considered the first hip-hop song to hit #1 in the US. That honor goes to... Ice Ice Baby, by Vanilla Ice.
Previously, radio was tracked Monday–Sunday and, before July 2015, Wednesday–Tuesday. The first number-one song of the Billboard Hot 100 was "Poor Little Fool" by Ricky Nelson, on August 4, 1958.

Seven is God's number, so it just started with that. From a younger age, seven has always been my favorite number. And then triple—it triumphs 666, or overcomes 666. It became a part of my brand when I changed my name to Latto in reference to the lottery and casino, hitting the jackpot is 777.
In the past few years since signing to RCA Records, the 25-year-old released her project Queen of Da Souf, her album 777 and loose singles while continuing to elevate and garner accolade after accolade.
But…do you know the name Sylvia Robinson? Nicknamed “the Mother of Hip-Hop,” Robinson was the producer behind both of the songs. Oh, and she was also an executive with Sugar Hill Records, the pioneering rap label that released them. Earlier in her career, Robinson was an accomplished singer and recording artist.
1981: The Blondie release “Rapture,” with Deborah Harry's raps, is the first to top the Billboard charts. Sixteen years later, KRS-One interpolates it for “Step Into a World (Rapture's Delight),” finally allowing hard-core rap fans to admit they like Blondie.
