Is left-hand brewing independent? ›

Most of the beer we all drink is made from the same four ingredients. Barley, water, hops and yeast, yes that's all it takes to create the world's most refreshing drink. The basic idea is to extract the sugars from grains (usually barley) so that the yeast can turn it into alcohol and CO2, creating beer.

The earliest clear chemical evidence of beer produced from barley dates to about 3500–3100 BC, from the site of Godin Tepe in the Zagros Mountains of western Iran. It is possible, but not proven, that it dates back even further – to about 10,000 BC, when cereal was first farmed.

Left Hand Brewing Company was incorporated in September 1993, and in November of that year they found a home in Longmont, Colorado. The brewery was named Left Hand, after Chief Niwot (meaning left-handed), a Southern Arapahoe chief whom wintered his tribe in the Boulder Valley area of Colorado.

All of these references to 'left hand' refer back to the southern Arapaho tribal leader, Chief Niwot. Niwot means left-handed, so even the quaint town of Niwot, Colorado (7 miles west of downtown Longmont) and everything with the word Niwot in it (Niwot Mountain, Niwot Ridge) also means left hand.

Several reviews have suggested that consuming one to two beers a day may help lower your risk of heart disease. In fact, beer may be as effective at improving general heart health as wine at comparable alcohol levels.

Alcoholic beer is likely safe for most adults when used in moderation (two 12-ounce glasses daily). But drinking more than this is possibly unsafe. Drinking higher amounts of alcoholic beer can cause, blackouts, drowsiness, low blood sugar, vomiting, and other serious problems.

Though beer is often viewed as empty calories, it contains some minerals and vitamins. In addition, both types contain small amounts of potassium, calcium, thiamine, iron, and zinc. The content of B vitamins and minerals is a result of beer being made from cereal grains and yeast.

China remained the largest beer-consuming country in the world for the 20th consecutive year, and consumption increased in 2021 by 1.0% year-on-year. Japan (up 2.5% from the previous year) increased slightly but dropped in ranking for the second consecutive year in a row to 10th place.

Like all alcoholic beverages, the Bible prohibits abusing beer (Isaiah 5:11; 28:7; Proverbs 20:1; 31:4). But in moderation, drinking beer was encouraged (Proverbs 31:6). In fact, Deuteronomy 14:26 actually commands Israelites to use some of their tithe money to buy some beers and celebrate before the Lord.
