Where can I install Messenger? ›

To install or update the Messenger app for Android, download Messenger from the Google Play store.

Meta has announced that it is discontinuing its Messenger Lite app for Android devices. The app, which was introduced in 2016, was popular for its lightweight design and simplicity. Marking the end of an era, Meta has announced that their Messenger Lite application for Android devices is now being discontinued.

If you are using Messenger on a new or different device, you will need to first restore your chats to view previous messages. After you log in to Messenger, you will be asked to allow it to fetch your key from your Google or Apple account, or to enter your 6-digit PIN. Your encrypted chat history will then be restored.

Update the Facebook Messenger mobile app

If the Messenger app on your iPhone or Android phone is outdated, it may cause issues with account authentication. Facebook regularly releases Messenger updates to add new features and fix bugs. Open the Google Play Store or App Store to update Messenger to the latest version.

If you don't have a Facebook account yet and just want to use Messenger, follow these steps. Download Facebook Messenger on iOS, Android, or Windows Phone. Open the app and enter your phone number. Tap Continue.

You'll need to create a Facebook account to use Messenger. You can then deactivate your Facebook account and log into Messenger using your Facebook account information. This is called a Deactivated Except Messenger Account (DEMA).
