Restaurants Open on Mondays and Tuesdays in St. Augustine (2024)

Restaurants have always closed on Mondays, but with the recent labor shortages, some of St. Augustine’s restaurants close on Monday and Tuesday now! Which works for them, but can be really frustrating for our guests. Especially those guests who are only staying Monday and Tuesday.

The good news is, St. Augustine has so many amazing restaurants, that even with some newly closed a day or two a week, you will find lots of choices to enjoy food throughout town.

Great Lunch or Casual Dinner Restaurants OPEN on Mondays and Tuesdays

Ice Plant. First things first: I really can’t complain about restaurants being closed the beginning of the week, when one of my favorite restaurants is open every day of the week! Drive to this fun bar/restaurant and park in their lot, split the blue crab beignets, and enjoy their 1/2 pound burger or fresh fish sandwich. Great artisan drinks using spirits from the St. Augustine distillery, or try their homemade sodas.
Columbia Restaurant. Right on St. George Street, this is an old favorite for a reason. Enjoy their 1905 salad along with half a Cuban sandwich for lunch, or go for fresh fish at dinner (I’ve always liked the red snapper Adelita). Pro Tip: As of the beginning of June, they are not taking walk-ins at all. So plan ahead and make a reservation!
Prohibition Kitchen. Speaking of restaurants on St. George Street, PK is a fun, speakeasy atmosphere with great food and…wait for it…boozy co*cktails! Ask to sit upstairs; it’s a little quieter. Open every day at noon, serving lunch and dinner.
Roosevelt Room. Right next to Prohibition Kitchen is the swanky Roosevelt Room. If you can never get enough breakfast food, you’ll love Roosevelt Room and their brunch/lunch menu. I recommend the candied bacon and eggs benedict. Open from 9-2 every day; serving brunch only.
Conch House. The fun of the Conch House on Anastasia Island is sitting high in one of their cool palapas, looking out over the water. That, and their goombay smashes, which always hit the spot. Lunch and dinner every day (dinner hours are extended on the weekends).
Harry’s. Here’s another old favorite, located within easy walking distance right on Avenida Menendez. New Orleans style food, with a laid back style to match. If you loved the blue crab beignets I mentioned at Ice Plant, don’t miss the more-traditionally-sweet Oreo beignets at Harry’s. Open for lunch and dinner every day.
The Reef. If you want to eat on the water, The Reef is a wonderful option for lunch or dinner (more on dinner below), located on the ocean in Vilano Beach. Great sandwiches and salads at lunch, as well as daily fish specials. Open for lunch and dinner every day.
Cafe Alcazar. Located in the Lightner Museum, this lunch-only spot serves great salads (chicken curry is my fave) and high end sandwiches in the old indoor swimming pool (no water, of course). If you’re lucky, there will be a musician playing as background.
St. Augustine Fish Camp. One of the newest kids on the block, Fish Camp has quickly become a favorite for locals and visitors alike. It’s a loud restaurant on Riberia Street, with a boisterous feel–lots of big groups laughing and celebrating–even on a Monday night! Open for dinner every day, and lunch every day except Monday.
Catch 27. Serving dinner only during the week; lunch and dinner on weekends. Want a casual (but not too casual) dinner option for Monday or Tuesday? Catch 27 on Charlotte Street serves the freshest seafood in town, along with my all-time favorite appetizers: deviled eggs on bacon jam, with a perfectly fried oyster on each.

Great Special Occasion Restaurants Open All Week in St. Augustine:

Cap’s on the Water. On the water in Vilano Beach, but the intracoastal/river side instead of the ocean. This beautiful restaurant has a huge outdoor deck, dotted with ancient live oaks that are strung with white lights. A great atmosphere for a romantic night (time your meal to watch the sun set), and wonderful food as well. Check out the fresh catch on the specials board as you walk into the restaurant. Pro Tip: Cap’s is not taking reservations right now…so go early when it isn’t quite as crowded, and have the sun set towards the end of your meal, not the beginning or the middle. The Reef.We mentioned the Reef earlier because we love sitting on their deck and overlooking the waves for lunch. But when the lights go down, the Reef can be super romantic too. Ask for an inside table, preferably in the smaller dining room (on your left at the hostess stand). Plan on a nice bottle of wine (if you have a special one saved from your wedding, for instance, they will serve it for a corkage fee). Their special occasion food is awesome too–seafood lovers should try the shrimp and lobster risotto, and meat-and-potato types will love the filet mignon. www.thereefstaugustine.com
Costa Bravo. A dark and sexy restaurant in the Casa Monica hotel, you can spend all night looking at all of the Moorish details of this landmark building in town. Enjoy a glass of wine, and the grilled beef tenderloin or the peppercorn crusted short ribs.
Old City House Restaurant. Located right across from the Lightner Museum on Cordova Street, this historic inn serves good food elegantly. Closed Sunday (but included because it wasn’t Monday or Tuesday!) www.oldcityhouseinn.com
Catch 27. Yes, we listed this earlier as a ‘casual but not too casual’ option. But it can be downright romantic with a table for two. Ask for a table outside in a quiet corner, or one of the corner tables in their inside dining room. www.catchtwentyseven.com
Harry’s. Speaking of downright romantic: Harry’s courtyard is a brick lined space with all the trees wrapped in white lights. Ask for a table along the periphery (but not too close to the musician), and the lighting and fast service mean you’ll have special occasion feels in no time. www.hookedonharrys.com

How lucky are we to have so many amazing restaurants, that we still have wonderful choices when other restaurants are closed! We have been focusing on the negative, because so many restaurants have been shortening service, and reducing their days open…but really, the story here is completely positive. Because look at all these choices!!

Having said that, we do want to share a list of restaurants that are closed on Mondays and/or Tuesdays. Again, this doesn’t mean that you don’t have amazing food choices on ANY day of the week! But we do want to list these so that you don’t get your hopes up for a restaurant that won’t be open during your stay.

The bottom line: St. Augustine has been through pirate raids, city-wide fires, hurricanes, pandemics, and now a critical labor shortage, but I have no doubt that the amazing restauranteurs in town will get through this challenge as well. In the meantime, make your plans early, and plan on checking out some new and awesome restaurants around town. You might just find your next ‘must have’ meal for all future trips to St. Augustine!
