The counterpart to adobo seco, sazón is another Puerto Rican seasoned salt – the difference being that while adobo is primarily used to flavor meat, sazón is primarily used to flavor vegetables. Traditionally, sazón contains ground annatto (achiote molido) for color, but I can only find whole annatto seeds in my area. I’ve learned the hard way that it is incredibly difficult and time-consuming to grind the seeds by hand. So, for my blend, I’ve swapped it out for turmeric powder.

INGREDIENTS
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon turmeric powder

TOOLS

METHOD
1. Place all ingredients in spice jar and seal with lid. Shake to mix.

NOTES & TIPS
• Use about 1/2 teaspoon per serving.
• 1/2 tablespoon sazón = 1 packet Sazón GOYA® con Culantro y Achiote (Coriander & Annatto)
