What is the Carolina Reaper Pepper

The Carolina Reaper is a chili pepper that was created by crossing the Pakistani naga viper with a sweet, red habanero pepper. It was created by Ed Currie in 2012 and in 2013, the Guinness World Records named the Carolina Reaper the hottest chili pepper in the world. Although today, the hottest chili pepper is debatable.

It is red and gnarled, and it looks like it means business. This chili pepper packs quite the punch, as it measures in at over 2 million Scoville Heat Units!

To put that into perspective, most jalapeño peppers measure between 2,500 to 8,000 Scoville Heat Units. Carolina Reapers are about 100 times hotter than the jalapeño.

As you can see, the Carolina Reaper is no joke. If you're looking for a pepper that is seriously HOT, then this is the one for you.

So if you're wondering what makes these pickles hot, it's the Carolina Reaper pepper!

Types of Pickles

As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, there are currently 21 different types of pickles. We won't be listing them all here today, but we would like to mention a few of the most popular ones.

Dill Pickles: These are the most common type of pickle and they are usually found in grocery stores. They are cucumbers that have been soaked in a vinegar or brine solution. These are often used to make popular dill pickle hot sauces.

Kosher Pickles: These pickles are also cucumbers that have been soaked in a salt brine solution. The difference is that kosher pickles must be made with kosher salt.

Sour Pickles: These pickles are cucumbers that have been soaked without the vinegar. Rather the solution is made from salt, water, and spices, and then fermented. This fermentation process gives them their sour taste.

Spicy Pickles: These pickles can be any of the types we just mentioned or really any type of pickle. They are then infused with chili peppers. This gives them their spicy taste and there are no better spicy pickles than Mikey V's Reaper Pickles!

Among these, you'll also find pickles such as:

  • Bread and butter pickles

  • Lemon pickles

  • Lime pickles

  • Sauerkraut

  • Candied pickles

  • Sweet pickles

How are Spicy Pickles Made

If you want to make your own spicy pickles, it's actually quite easy. All you need is a jar, some cucumbers, vinegar, salt, water, and chili peppers. Depending on the chili pepper you use will determine the heat level. So we recommend using the Scoville Scale to find the right pepper and heat level.

Steps to Making Spicy Pickles

First, you'll want to wash your cucumbers. Next, slice them into thin slices or chunks (depending on how you want them). After that, add the cucumbers to your jar.

You'll want to add spices such as garlic, red pepper flake, and chopped onion to the bottom of the jar. You can also add whatever chili pepper you want to use for your pickle as well.

Just make sure you know what heat level you're dealing with! If you want killer heat, try adding some Carolina Reapers... if you want it to still pack a bunch, but not as hot, try using the 7 pot primo pepper! If you want something mild, go with the jalapeño.

Next, you'll want to make your pickling solution. To do this, simply combine vinegar, salt, water, and chili peppers in a pot and bring it to a boil. Once it's boiling, carefully pour it over the cucumbers in the jar.

Make sure to cover the pickles completely with the solution.

Once the jar is full, seal it tightly and let it sit for at least 24 hours before eating. This will give the cucumbers time to soak up all of that delicious flavor.

And that's it! You've now made your own spicy pickles. Enjoy!

If you don't want to go through the trouble of making your own, you can always buy them here at Mikey V's. After all... we do have the world's hottest pickles!
