Everyone is saying the same thing about the last ever scene of Peaky Blinders (2024)

The final episode of Peaky Blinders has aired, and fans of the show have praised the emotional but "satisfying" ending. Thomas Shelby, who thought he was living under the death sentence of tuberculoma, had a lot of loose ends to tie up.

Dr Holford, played by Welsh actor Aneurin Barnard, had told Tommy that he had an incurable brain tumour and one he was highly likely to die from. Tommy also received the news that as the tumour grew he would continue to deteriorate, suffering from seizures and hallucinations.

But in the last instalment of the popular BBC gangster drama, Tommy found out he had been tricked but not before a number of twists, turns and deaths of major characters, including his nephew Michael Gray.

Revenge-seeking Michael had been released from prison and out for Tommy's blood. However, just as he attempts to blow up the Shelby gang leader, Johnny Dogs comes to the rescue, switched the bomb meant for Tommy, and Tommy ends up shooting Michael in the face. Viewers also watched as Arthur avenged the death of Polly by shooting her killer, IRA boss Captain Swing, and Duke Shelby killed Billy Grade.

Just as Tommy is about to shoot himself while standing in a traditional gyspy trailer, the ghost of his dead daughter, Ruby, pays him a visit and tells him that he "must live" and that he isn't ill.

After seeing her, Tommy finds a newspaper announcing the wedding of Lady Diana Mitford and Sir Oswald Mosley and sees Dr Holford pictured in attendance. He soon realises that his doctor has deceived him and that he isn't suffering from tuberculoma at all. Read about the real Diana Mitford here.

And it's fair to say the much-loved series, which first aired in 2013, went out with a bang as the caravan is set on fire, and Tommy is seen through the flames riding off on a white horse. It was all set to the backtrack of the song All The Tired Horses sang by Lisa O'Neill.

The episode also featured a cameo from Sleaford Mods singer Jason Williamson, and saw a brief return of Alfie Solomons, played by Tom Hardy.

The official Peaky Blinders posted a picture of Tommy's hat on top of some betting slips and newspapers.

The post said: "Thanks for watching Peaky Blinders. Thank you to all the incredible fans who have been a part of the journey over the last ten years. We couldn’t have done it without your support. Now we Peaky Blinders rest."

Fans took to Twitter to praise the season finale, with one person writing: "I have no words other than: amazing. This series, in particular, has been a cinematic masterpiece. Cannot believe it’s over, what a ride. One of the best TV shows made and out with a bang," while another added: "Wow Wow Wow. Just absolutely brilliant."

Another pointed out that the show ended where if first began with Tommy riding into the show on black horse, Georgia said: "Back where is all began on a horse. Steven Knight I love you. The ending was perfection."

MoreoM said: "A brilliant finale to the best show. Whilst it was the weakest season, the ending was perfect. Cillian Murphy created one of the greatest characters of all time with Tommy Shelby!"
