Why is there a limit on digital library books? ›

This is because publishers use a licensing model for selling e-books to libraries. Each copy of a digital book title requires a purchase of a license. While there are many types of licenses, the most common license needs to be purchased and then re-purchased every year.

The Ohio Digital Library is a collaborative effort involving libraries across the state of Ohio. Through this initiative, Ohio residents with a valid library card from a participating library can access and borrow ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines for free.

To get a digital card, go to Our Catalog. On the left side, select "Sign Up For A Library Card", and fill out the application. The resulting library card number and pin may be used to access the Ohio Digital Library, hoopla, and the Library's Online Resources.

Many different factors affect whether we purchase specific titles as eBooks or eAudiobooks. Publishers charge libraries much more for eBooks and eAudiobooks than a consumer would pay for them. The biggest factor impacting how many eBooks and eAudiobooks we can purchase for our collection is the price set by publishers.

How to find free digital books? ›

Eligible library books are available in the United States through a digital service called OverDrive. Confirm whether your library branch participates and offers Kindle books. Get a library card and a PIN from your local library. Go to the website of your local public library and search for "Kindle books" or "eBooks."

The main requirement of setting up a digital library is relevant and quality content and accessibility to the relevant audience. In other words, providing the right content to the right user at the right time is the aim of the library and it should be developed by beginning from this perspective.
