Is the University System of Georgia a government agency? ›

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia was created in 1931 as a part of a reorganization of Georgia's state government. With this act, public higher education in Georgia was unified for the first time under a single governing and management authority.

The name of the school was changed to Georgia Military College in 1900. Legislative acts of 1920 and 1922 severed the relationship with the University of Georgia and gave the local board total power over the operations of the school.

The University of Georgia is a public land-grant research university with its main campus in Athens, Georgia. Georgia State University is a public research university in Atlanta, Georgia. Founded in 1913, it is one of the University System of Georgia's four research universities.

While UNG is a Senior Military College and cadets are immersed in a fulltime Army ROTC Program, you are not required to serve in the military upon graduation.

Minimum requirements are: > Graduated high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA and 800 combined SAT or composite 17 ACT score or earned no more than 30 semester or 45 quarter postsecondary hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA. > Recommended by a member of the Georgia General Assembly.

The system designates four institutions as "research universities": Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Georgia, Augusta University, and Georgia State University.
