HeelvsBabyface (2024)

Friday Night Tights

Hi everyone. It's Az here from HeelvsBabyface.

―HeelvsBabyface's intro

Az, better known online as HeelvsBabyface, is a British commentary, reviewer and gaming YouTuber. Prior to becoming a YouTuber he worked in marketing. His initial videos were mostly to do with World of Warcraft.

The name HeelvsBabyface was inspired by wrestling terminology with the "heel" referencing a bad guy while a "babyface" represents a good guy. Because his commentary deals with both good things and bad things and also because Az self describes as "an opinionated twat" the name was thought appropriate for his channel.[1]

Content[]

The channel HeelvsBabyface began in 2012 creating videos mainly to do with the video game World of Warcraft (WoW). Between 2018 and 2020 most of his video avatars were text written on a whiteboard rather than composed of graphics. During this time, after interactions with other youtubers like Bowlestrek, The Critical Drinker and later Nerdrotic, the channel shifted focus from WoW to pop culture commentary.

Since 2020 most of Az's videos consist of his talks dealing with pop culture and entertainment, namely progressive works coming from major companies such as Disney and Warner Bros and their comic subdivisions Marvel and DC comics and Lucasfilm/Star Wars, and his nation's series, Doctor Who. He was a longtime comic book fan, particularly of Batman, but stopped buying comics in response to the comic book industry becoming more political. In more recent years. His like of the Batman comic lore inspired his screen name "Az" which came from the character Azrael.[2]

Az also makes many videos reviewing CW's Batwoman by each episode (which he is very critical of). He is the co-host and mascot of the Real BBC which he does with Nerdrotic discussing their issues with BBC's Doctor Who with the change of the series with Jodi Whitaker's Doctor. The retcon of many elements of the series due to feminism and progressivism.

He further collaborates with Nerdrotic as a regular member of the panel on the show Friday Night Tights (FNT). A common joke on the FNT show are intentionally fallacious claims that he lives in New Zealand rather than the United Kingdom - a joke instigated by an inebriated (but jovial) allegation from TheQuartering.

In June 2021 his account was suspended from Twitter for a tweet in response to the Winter Hulk comic series which allegedly violated Twitter rules. The tweet contained a quote from Game of Thrones "All men must die."[3] On 6 February 2023 his Twitter account was restored. Prior to which he had two other Twitter accounts hawttoys (also suspended) and TotesNotHvB.

Az also livestreams while playing the video games such as Valheim, The Witcher, Myth of Empires and Elden Ring.

Starfield Controversy[]

In early September 2023, Az livestreamed his gameplay of Starfield when the early access was released, and during the character creation screen at the start of the game, he saw a pronoun selection consisting of "he/him" "she/her" and "they/them" which is what the NPCs will refer to you, regardless of your character's biological sex. At first, he appears visibly shocked and at a loss of words, then later on when an apparently female character reveals in dialogue that she is a clone of a male individual he pauses mid-stream and lashes out in a lengthy rant about modern/current day politics being shoveled into games and claiming it was also "immersion breaking" and distastefully narcissistic.

This clip went viral across the entire Internet, especially on twitter, causing a massive "woke vs anti-woke" flame war online. Many left wing internet personalities called Az out, such as The Act Man, Hasan Piker, and many people on Reddit and Youtube, calling his rant insensible, immature, and utterly transphobic. Others, such as The Quartering, The Rageaholic, YoungRippa59, Geeks + Gamers, Lauren Chen and other anti-sjw content creators came to Az's defense, saying he did the right thing to speak out against game companies that pander to progressive ideology.[4]

About[]

Az was not actually born in the United Kingdom (or New Zealand), as his father was a military serviceman stationed abroad, but has lived his whole life in Yorkshire, England.[5] He stated that he ran away from home aged 17 because his mother asked him to clean his room.[6]

He has a pet cat named Belle. His birthday in 26 January.[7] His Hogwarts house is Gryffindor and his favourite Lego castle faction is Black Falcons.
